Uniform Requirements:
The SPHRS gives a new member two years to get the basic uniform. We understand that most members do not have an unlimited supply of cash and therefore most will need to acquire equipment over a period of time. A new member should have the basic uniform within two years. If you wish to sew or make your own uniform or accouterments, be aware that the exact materials are expensive, hard to find and usually not worth the effort. Remember, all styles, colors and materials of your uniform, as well as your accouterments, plus your musket must be approved by the unit. Normally, we can save you time an money. They basic uniform is as follows with each item listed in order of preference.
The following items should be the first your procure for your basic uniform.
A. PANTS
1. Confederate military pattern made of number 10 jeans cloth
2. 100% wool, Federal sky blue with no stripe
3. 100% wool, period civilian style
B. SHIRT
1. Civil War pattern mad of muslin, cotton, flannel or wool in period patterns and colors
C. SHOES
1. Jefferson Bootess, black with leather laces. (money saver tip - desert boots dyed black with leather laces and metal eyelets removed can serve as a subsitute)
D. SOCKS
1. Wool or cotton, grey tan or white in color
(money saver tip - you can buy similar style socks at discount stores such as Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. at about half the price of a sutler)
E. SUSPENDERS
1. Linen or elastic button-on style (no clip-on types)
F. MUSKET
1. Reproduction three banded Enfield
2. Reproduction three banded Springfield
3. Reproduction three banded period military musket
G. UNIFORM COAT
1. NC Depot Shell Jacket made of number 10 geans cloth (no modern buttons)
2. Federal enlisted sack coat (navy blue)
H. HEADGEAR
1. Civilian period hat of any period color
2. Slouch hat any period color
3. Forage cap mixed grey (navy blue for Federal) in color
I. BELTS and BUCKLES
1. 2" black leather waistbelt with roller buckle
2. 2" black leather waistbelt with frame buckle
3. US Model 1854 black waistbelt with US oval buckle
J. CARTRIDGE AND CAP BOX
1. Any model Federal cartridge box and shoulder sling and any model Federal shield front cap box
2. Enfield cartridge and cap box
